Nisaba's Profitic Powers
Nisaba is the goddess of education, learning and writing. She also has dominion over harvests of all kinds, agricultural or otherwise.<br /><br />
When the god of wisdom, Enki, organized the world after creation and gave each deity a role in the world order, Nisaba was named the scribe of the gods. Enki then built her a school of learning so that she could better serve those in need. She kept records, chronicled events and performed other bookwork-related duties for the gods.<br /><br />
On the first day of the new year in ancient Sumeria, she and her sister Nanshe worked together to settle disputes between mortals and to give aid to those in need. Nisaba kept records of the visitors seeking aid and then arranged them into a line to stand before Nanshe, who would then judge them. Nisaba was also seen as a caretaker for Ninhursag's temple at Kesh where she gave commands and kept temple records.<br /><br />
The goddess of writing, teaching and learning, Nisaba was often praised by Sumerian scribes. She was considered the teacher of both mortal scribes and other divine deities. In the Babylonian period, she was replaced by the god Nabu, who took over her functions.<br /><br />
As the goddess of knowledge, she is related to many facets of intellectual study and other gods often turn to her for advice or aid. <br /><br />
Nisaba's sanctuaries were E-zagin at Eresh and at Umma. On a depiction found in Lagash, she appears with flowing hair, crowned with a horned tiara bearing supporting ears of corn and a crescent moon.<br /><br />
Nisaba is a benevolent goddess whose primary objectives are to help those in need and to elevate all people, enabling them to achieve their potential.<br /><br />
This wonderful artifact was acquired in Warka, Iraq. An Iraqi master magician, who has spent the greater part of his life binding djinn to vessels, bound Nisaba's spirit to this piece.
